Originally derived from boxing, “sparring” refers to a training session in which two boxers fight each other to improve their skills. In a figurative sense, this term is used in a business context to describe a form of coaching in which an executive can critically reflect on, test and further develop their ideas, strategies and decisions in a protected and confidential setting through a focused and intensive dialog with an experienced coach or mentor (the “sparring partner”).
Reflection
Through critical questioning, I challenge you and question your way of thinking. In doing so, we uncover blind spots and sharpen awareness of potential risks or weaknesses in your decisions and strategies.
Simulation
Working through scenarios is an important aspect of executive sparring. Difficult conversations or negotiations are simulated to sharpen your communication and decision-making skills.
